Existing Business

It is often said that up to 80% of a community’s economic activity will be spurred by companies already located in the area.  Existing industry has certainly been the key to Greater Burlington’s recent economic success.

The Business Retention & Expansion (BRE) Committee works to strengthen existing businesses in Greater Burlington.  In the early May, the Small Business Appreciation Breakfast is held, and the Manufacturers’ Appreciation Luncheon is held every October.  Recent award winners have included:

In addition, the BRE committee conducts personal visits to existing companies and organizations every year.  The visits typically take about an hour, and a variety of topics are covered from industry competition to workforce concerns.  Although individual responses are confidential, the results are aggregated and published.
