Class Schedule

Leadership PoseEach session incorporates a full day of activities which may include a combination of presentations, tours, discussions, training, simulation, and more. The sessions run from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM unless otherwise noted. Participants will be allowed to miss one full day, either excused or unexcused. Tardiness or leaving early will be considered as half day of absence.

To be eligible for graduation, all participants are required to be part of a class project and attend the opening session.

September 14, 2011 - Opening Session, 11 AM - 8 PM
Location: Greater Burlington Partnership

The opening session will be filled with networking and interpersonal skills, personality assessments and teamwork. An evening dinner will be provided to continue getting to know your classmates.

October 12, 2011 - Meet the Community
Location: Burlington Public Library

You will gain an insight into Greater Burlington's history and culture including a better knowledge of the present and future demographics. Participants will take a tour that features the areas attractions, businesses and culture.

November 9, 2011 - Education
Location: Southeastern Community College
Core Curriculum, No Child Left Behind, Programs of Study, Early Childhood Education, Iowa's Teacher Quality Initiatives, Accreditation Standards, Senior Year Plus, Student Assessment, School Finance....what do these all mean and what do they have to do with educating today's students for the workplace climate they will be entering? In this session, you'll discover education's many facets and the latest initiatives designed to promote student achievement and the development of productive citizens.

Greater Burlington Leadership will take part in the activities alongside area leaders of Des Moines, Lee, Henry and Louisa counties. Through this session you will learn how government works, how it impacts local and state issues and how you can get involved and make a difference with important community issues. (An overnight stay in Des Moines may be required and at an additional expense to the attendee. Registration for Great River Region Days is included in Greater Burlington Leadership fees.) *Dates are subject to change.
