Committees

The Greater Burlington Partnership is made up of many volunteers who help to accomplish the goals set for by the members and Boards of Directors. If you are interested in volunteering, there is a spot for you!
Membership Development DivisionAmbassadors - Extend a welcome during special events. Meets the second Thursday of each month September—May at 8 AM.
Annual Dinner and Fundraiser - Plans the annual meeting for the members of the Greater
Burlington Partnership. This event features dinner, a silent auction and fundraiser. Meets
August—February.
Chamber Business Appreciation Golf Classic - Coordinates a fun day on the course where
members are encouraged to bring customers and vendors. Meets March—August.
Buy Local - Is a program to encourage shopping and buying products in Greater Burlington.
The process will includes marketing, promotions, and enhancing the Chamber Bucks program. This committee is now forming and will meet on the second Tuesday of the month at 8 AM.
Leadership and Business Training - Creates two different programs that will focus on
leadership and training opportunities for business employees. This committee is now forming
and will meet on the fourth Thursday of the month
at
8 AM.
Political Action Division
Government Affairs - Develops legislative statements and plans trips to Des Moines and Washington D.C.; hosts Eggs n’ Issues breakfast forums and candidate forums for local
elections; and hosts annual public elected appreciation event. Meets the second Thursday of
each month at 7:30 AM.
Transportation - Volunteers work to influence decisions related to transportation
improvements for Des Moines County business and industry. Meets twice a year or on an as
needed basis.
Business Development Division
Business Retention/Expansion - Conducts existing industry calls and coordinates the small
business and manufacturer’s appreciation events. Meets the first Wednesday of each month at
7:30 AM.
Downtown Development - Works on issues devoted to Downtown Burlington
including redevelopment of buildings, attraction of businesses and upper story use. Meets the
first Tuesday of each month at 12 PM.
Greater Burlington YP - Is the Young Professionals group welcoming anyone under 45.
Events are hosted monthly. The Leadership Council meets the 3rd Friday of the month at 12
PM.
Greater Burlington YP Marketing - Creates advertising to entice young professionals about
living and working in Greater Burlington. The committee also raises funds for student
scholarship. Meets quarterly.
Future Workforce - Coordinates the 5th and 8th grade career fairs and focuses on developing
our youths for future careers. Meets the third Tuesday of each month
at 4 PM.
Entrepreneurship - Administers the annual business plan competition and works with area
stakeholders to market events and workshops for budding entrepreneurs. Meet the fourth
Wednesday of each month at 7:30 AM.
Value-Added Ag/Biotech - Assists the organization in marketing the area to prospective
businesses in the agriculture and biotech sectors. The committee also works on flood control and issues relevant to the river. Meets the first Thursday of each month at 7:30 AM.
Community Development Division
Downtown Design - Focuses on the visual quality of the Downtown, including improvements to building facades, signs, window displays, landscaping, streetscape and litter control. Meets
the last Tuesday of the month at 12 PM.
Marketing Division
Marketing - Is responsible for promoting and informing the local area and members of the
Greater Burlington Partnership the news and events through different marketing media. Meets
the second Friday of the month at 8 AM.
Downtown Marketing and Promotion - Coordinates
retail, special events, and image campaigns for the
Downtown. This committee is devoted to creating unique shopping experiences and activities. Meets the
last Tuesday of the month at 8 AM.
